Walking the St Francis Way
A Pilgrimage route from Assisi to Spoleto

St Francis, who was born into a wealthy family in Assisi in the 12th century, spent his days wandering the hills and valleys of the Apennines mountains, waiting for a sign from God on how to best live his life, and serve his countrymen. On our path from Assisi to Spoleto you’ll discover hermitages, chapels, shady forests, orchards, olive groves and fields of wheat and barley. The medieval hilltop towns and villages along the way overflow with great history, culture and architecture.

The long summers and fertile land bring forth olives, grapes and other delicious produce in sun-kissed abundance. Beautifully preserved medieval towns dot the landscape. Besides the treasures of Assisi are the lesser known attractions of Spello and Spoleto. Here peace and quiet pervade the shade of old town streets. Look out for the Spello flower festival in June, the scent of jasmine is intoxicating, and for the Trevi medieval festival in October.
