Walk the Cotswold Way
Idyllic English landscapes
BOOK NOW

About the Trail:

Facts: The Cotswolds; idyllic and quintessential English villages with honey coloured cottages, ridges, valleys, rolling green plains divided by hedgerows, dry-stone walls and country lanes as well as the remarkable limestone scenery of the Cotswold Escarpment. The Cotswold Way winds south westwards for 103 miles from Chipping Campden to the Regency city of Bath, through a real walker's landscape. We suggest several full route programmes of 7 to 14 nights, or the the option to walk either just the first 77 mile section from Chipping Campden to Painswick, or the southern 55 mile section from Painswick to Bath.

Highlights: From the typical Cotswold market town of Chipping Campden, the first day's walk on the trail gives a good feel for what the Cotswolds are all about: taking in the attractive villages of Broadway and Stanton and ascending the Cotswold Escarpment for the first time with panoramic views from the natural amphitheatre of Dover's Hill. The route passes through Winchcombe, a Saxon provincial capital of the Kingdom of Murcia, and takes you past Sudely Castle up to the Neolithic long barrow of Belas Knap and one of the most breathtaking spots of the route. At Cleeve Common, you reach the highest point in the Cotswolds with views into Wales, before dropping down to the village of Cleeve Hill and The Ring. Also along  the way you ascend and descend the escarpment and encounter both natural and man made highlights of this unique corner of Britain. The final leg of the route heads from the southern edge of the Cotswolds plateau with a series of magnificent views culminating in the descent into the scenic bowl holding the elegant city of Bath. A stroll past The Crescent and The Circus brings you to the end of the Cotswolds Way at the Roman Baths and the Pump Room.

About the Trail:

Any person who is reasonably in shape can complete the Cotswold Way even though many hikers are astounded to discover the number of sheer ascents, however no scrambling is involved. The route is well marked so finding your way is easy. The terrain is usually grassy and the trekking path passes mainly through woodlands. The maximum height on this trail is 330 meters (1082 ft).

"Thanks for the arrangements, all went to plan and of course we were fortunate to walk in such glorious weather. (...) Superb facilities and looking to book to go back with my wife at some time. Thanks again for all your help." Jeffrey C.

"We walked the Cotswold Way in April. It was our first experience of this type of holiday and we will definitely try a Load off Your Back holiday again. It was a good walk, good holiday, good useful information and to be recommended." Edward K.

"I would like to thank you and your team for the arrangements for the holiday which was very successful. I was particularly pleased with the accommodation you found. My luggage travelled without problem from place to place; I thought the laminated label a really good idea. I would certainly recommend the walk and your company to others." John W.

"We very much enjoyed our holiday on the Cotswold Way - despite the fact that it rained for three solid days, for which we cannot blame you! Your booking service was very efficient, we received all the information we needed, and all the accommodation that you secured was close to the trail and of very acceptable quality or better. The baggage transfer worked very well - our bags were waiting for us in the new accommodation every evening. We had no problem finding places to eat along the way. Based on this experience we would be very happy to book with you again." Mary G.

"Just wanted to say thank you, the arrangements for the holiday all worked very well. We will definitely recommend your service and use it again if we plan a similar walk in future." Jim M.
