About the Trail:

Facts: The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path (Llwybr Arfordir Penfro) offers some of the best coastal scenery in Wales and some of the finest walking. In 1952 the uniqueness of the Pembrokeshire Coast has been recognised with national park status. Opened in 1970, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path was the first National Trail in Wales. The path delivers constant variety and some truly enthralling moments from quaint fishing villages, attractive seaside towns, secluded coves, a string of sweeping sandy beaches, rocky headlands and towering cliffs. The Path is an exquisite, classic British walk, always highly rewarding and not to be missed. Take a look at the route options for walking the path for a holiday with a duration and daily walking distance to suit you. The routes offer an insightful and comprehensive guide littered with historic notes and tales to embellish your walking experience.

Highlights: This beautiful corner of Wales boasts many sites of historic and cultural interest such as St. David's, the smallest city in Britain with its fine cathedral, several ruined castles and Iron Age forts. There are lily ponds at Bosherston and the golden sandy beach at Barafundle. As well as being world renowned for its superb coastal scenery, the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is also famed for its wildlife with some spectacular seabird colonies, grey and common seals, dolphins and even the occasional basking shark to admire from the cliff top trails. Try spotting seals in the rocky coves below the path and gannets diving for fish out to sea; with a little bit of luck you may see the grey dorsal fins of porpoises hunting for fish beneath the gannets! Heather and gorse abound with a remarkable rage of colour in August. In places the red of the Old Red Sandstone is brightly streaked with yellow algae.

The nature of the Trail:

Although the path is not mountainous, there are many ups-and-downs. The cliffs are of volcanic origin with frequent rocky outcrops and loose volcanic stone. You will walk on natural terrain which can change from high rough cliff tops to sandy beaches. The views are dramatic however, the terrain may be rough and rocky in places. The section between St Dogmaels and St David's is quite isolated from villages, it is rugged with high cliffs rising from the choppy sea. St Bride's Bay awaits you with open sandy beaches, while the Milford Haven estuary is not so exposed. The southern part of the path is more gentle and the landscape becomes more urbanised.

"(...) just wanted to thank you for all efforts in organising this trip for us. We had a wonderful holiday. Everything about it was excellent. The accommodation was varied and in some cases outstanding. We were unaware of any arrangements, but the luggage was always awaiting us in our new B&B. We realise that the weather added enormously to the overall enjoyment and we were able to enjoy every coffee and lunch stop at an outstanding spot, frequently a little cove which we had all to ourselves. One thing which added to the relaxed and stress free holiday was the incredible efficiency and frequency of the coastal hopper buses of which were totally unaware prior to the holiday." Pat R.
