About the Trail:

Facts: The Jurassic Coast Path from Exmouth to Poole on the Western Approaches to the English Channel is Britain’s first natural World Heritige Site and covers 98 miles of some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery along the 630 mile South West Coast Path.

The geology and weather have carved out a spectaclar coastal landscape. The erosion of the coast has also exposed a profusion of fossils and in the early 19th century a young girl called Mary Anning from Lyme Regis uncovered the large and almost complete fossilised remains of a ‘crocodile’ dinosaur, a find that challenged the existing religious ideas of the history of the earth. She subsequently went on to discover more fossils of fantastic creatures.

Highlights: The rocks and fossils on the Jurassic Coast cover the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretacious periods and include some remarkable coastal scenery such as the rock formations of Durdle Door in close proximity of Lulworth Cove and Old Harry Rocks near Swanage. In between, the Jurassic Coast Path visits some picturesque villages such as the charming port of Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Lulworth and the bustling port of Poole enriching this superb walking holiday. Take a look at the route options for walking the path for a holiday with a duration and daily walking distance to suit you.

The nature of the Trail:

You will ramble primarily on the coastal path and the terrain will vary from tarmac and grassy to rocky and rough in places. The path offers a mixture of easy open walking along the high cliff tops, but it also involves short sections of ascents of a maximum of about 500ft.

"We just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for organising our week's SWCP holiday. We had a super week with fantastic weather, almost too hot at times, and really enjoyed our time away. Luggage transfer was fine and our cases were always at the hotel when we arrived.  Maps, guide book & location maps of each property was perfect - thank you. We certainly would have no hesitation recommending LOYB, and we'll be looking to see which long distance footpath we can walk next!" Carolyn M.

"We very much enjoyed our holiday on the Jurassic Coast. In particular, we appreciated the helpful and efficient service we received (...) centrally prior to departure (additional information on local buses, etc).  Also, the luggage transport service was excellent and worked seamlessly. It was a lovely part of the country to walk/holiday in, with many attractions apart from the walks. All the B&Bs were friendly. We would certainly recommend Load Off Your Back to others." Graham G.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our walk, a first for us and we will do more in the future. It all worked very smoothly and the luggage transfers were excellent. Thank you, we will be back!" Tom and Judy D.
